Poppies Canvas

This is a canvas that I made for my daughter Lindsay she is away at college and I was missing her so I decided to make a piece of art for her dorm room. I was playing around making background paper for some cards using the shaving cream technique... Then I spotted the canvas across my studio. I grabbed it. If you are not familiar with the shaving cream technique.. I will tell you a little about it. Usually I use a foam or paper plate. You get a nice plate full of shaving cream, drip some Re-Inkers in it or alcohol inks, swirl the ink into the shaving cream until it is swirled a little if you swirl it too much all of your colors run together and become muddy. Then you press your card stock into the shaving cream pull it out  and then scrape off the shaving cream. Make sure to use the white fluffy kind of shaving cream in white...not the gel (I use and old gift card or credit card to scrape it) and the ink is left on your paper in a beautiful marbled design. Well when I spotted that canvas I wiped off the foam plate and flipped it over and started the process all over again on the back side of the plate. After the colors were swirled I pressed the plate onto the canvas, then scraped it... I kept on going and going until I had a beautiful backdrop. Ok so now what to do with it?  I rummaged through my stamp collection until I found just what I was looking for ... My Unity Stamps. I needed to put Donna Downey's large Poppy flowers on this canvas. I colored in the flowers using my Tim Holtz Distress markers. I had so much fun with this project. Now I had to wait a week for Lindsay to come home for the weekend from college... that was the hard part. I loosely tied a ribbon  on it so that I could attach the card. She was quite surprised and went crazy when she saw it.You can get this stamp set here and the sentiment here. Unity Stamps is having their 55% off sale over this Labor Day Weekend... Use the code LABOR55 and it will take 55% off of your entire order. They are also having reduced shipping rates and a gift with purchase. Go and check it out.

My entry for Unity Stamp's CHA Creative Color Contest

This is the card that I created with the free image given to us by Unity Stamp company. www.unitystampco.com  The Image was created by Angie Blom. I had so much fun coloring it. I used Gina K designs heavy base weight cardstock for the card base and the image. The Turquoise Sea Card Stock was layered on a Black Onyx layer to create a 1/8 inch border. After I colored the image I adhered it to a layer of  Black Onyx card stock and then fussy cut the border around the image. The sentiment is also a Unity stamp Sentiment from the You are fabulous Birthday girl set . I hope you enjoyed my card... It's not too late for you to enter just go here http://www.theunitystampco.blogspot.com/2013/07/unity-cha-creative-party-here-all-week.html for all of the details ...you can also tell Angela that I sent you.

Designs stamps only for our monthly blog hops starting this month!  Most everyone we know are busy getting ready for the Halloween fun coming up on the 31st.  We spooked it up for you in our last hop, so this month we want to celebrate November by “Giving Thanks” to all of our followers.  To some “giving thanks” is the traditional Thanksgiving holiday, but to others to “give thanks” is to show appreciation to all those great family and friends in our lives.  So, our hop this month is to show you how different we all give thanks.
The blog hop designers have been busy creating a card or cards that we hope will inspire you to create your fall themed “thanks” cards whether it be Thanksgiving, Give Thanks, Happy Harvest or a simple Thank You.

CARDS SAMPLES FOR OUR BLOG HOPPERS!

I absolutely fell in love with this card when I saw Gina K do her rock and roll technique so I had to case it. For this card I used the new Gina K Tomato Soup pure luxury card stock for my card base. My first layer is also Gina K's Dark Chocolate Pure Luxury card stock then I used the layering weight ivory for my third layer. The stamps that I used for the image are from the Gina K A year of flowers stamp set. The sentiment is from Gina K's Springtime Silhouettes stamp set . I used Momento bamboo leaves and old olive for the leaves, and cantaloupe and morocco for the flowers. I also used Momento rich cocoa marker for the center of the flower. For the shimmer on the flowers and leaves I used Sakura Gelly roll pen the color is Clear Star. I always like to finish my cards on the inside as well, even if its just a layer of paper and some ribbon on the inside. Baby Boy Book

Hi Everyone, a friend of mine asked me to make her a gift for a baby shower that she is attending next weekend and she wanted something different. I've decided to make her a book out of manila file folders. I was surprised when I went to Staples to find that they had a whole box of file folders that come in colors... I chose the box that had pink, blue, yellow and green pastels. I am working on it now and I will post pictures of the step by step process. I am enjoying my Labor Day by doing something I love.... Crafting!!!
